I think people think the solution is counter-intuitive mainly because people don't take into account the fact that because they picked door x, the host is unable to pick the same door, which affects the probabilities.
Had the guest not selected doors x, y or z, then after the host selected one of them, naturally the probability of the car being in one of the remaining doors would be 0.5.

How would I go about finding the area of a regular hexagon if I only know the side lengths, which are, say, 8cm? Can you please explain how you got the result.

Question one has a few answers.
The equation is:

10x+y can take the values of 75 and 64 to name two.
The digits are x and y. In the second half, you have 10x because it is in the 'tens' column, needed to form a 2 digit number.

Simple, yet twisted:

Suppose you're on a game show, and you're given the choice of three doors: Behind one door is a car; behind the others, goats. You pick a door, say No. 1, and the host, who knows what's behind the doors, opens another door, say No. 3, which has a goat. He then says to you, "Do you want to pick door No. 2?" Is it to your advantage to switch your choice?

Whaddaya reckon?

Anyways, all of us here would be glad to help you with any problems you have.

If you walk 26 steps down an escalator you need 30 seconds to reach the bottom. If you take 34 steps, you only need 18 seconds to reach the bottom.

Show that if the escalator is stationary, you have to walk 46 steps to get to the bottom.

Aaargh! I can't draw a graph for this or find an equation, it's like nothing i've learnt so far!

Hi tony,
I'm afraid I only understand about half of your solution. Could you please tell me how you came up with the measurements of 5 and 2.5? Thanks.

Anyway, I have my own (probably much more confusing) solution which I just found out today. It involves making the prism into a net and using pythagoras there. I'll post it as soon as I get the problem sheet back (it's not fresh in my mind). big_smile

I like (perhaps oddly) a lot of square enix game music at the moment. Some of music there can be pretty powerful and moving; it's like a whole new genre.

Hi everyone!

Lol mathysperson that's a very confusing way to solve for x, I don't even know what you're talking about. I woulda simply used the quadratic forumula:

so

(omg i can use latex now xD, it feels so good when the equation comes out right)
