anonimnystefy yes what you got I also got that using that equation, but things changes when I use

The correct answer will be

And thanks for reply

Ok before you guys think too much let me tell you where I got this from...as I said its about square root fo a complex number
Let z be a complex number

and its square root be c

Then

So
--- Eq1
--- Eq 2

Now every where they (in books, resource, etc)  find x using quadratic formula, and after that they substitute x in Eq2 to find y.But what I am doing is I am trying to find y using quadratic formula ,but my signs(+/-) doesn’t matches. I think its math and what process we take it doesn’t matters ,the answer will be always same. I must be doing something very very silly...which is not coming into my mind right now but it will come later it always happens with me.

No you didnt got my problem ,I know that  I am solving for y^2,and after solving for y^2 I have to remove the square,The problem is different just solve it and I will tell it about...
Actually I am solving for this

Hi all I am having problem with this qudratic equation with signs ,or I am doing something silly ,its all about square root of complex number.

------Eq 1
------Eq 2
We can write Eq 2 as

Now we can write Eq 1 as

Is my last equation correct? (I hope so),if yes please solve it using qudratic formula ,as far you can
I have did it but my answer is not matching with correct answer got from other process. The sign is not matching but yes if I write the last equation like this
,my answer matches.

Thanks

I got 3.75, so I rounded that up to 4.
(4, 0)

These coordinates or points are from cartesian coordinate system, they all have different meanings, you just cant change it a bit ,if you do the whole system will go wrong...
In short never round up any point of any coordinate,if the answer is in fraction keep it in fraction
So in this case your coordinate will be

I don't think any of the work is wrong but the problem is only one point was found for each equation. I need 2 points from each equation.

Like you picked 2 for x ,just pick any other number for x you will get another point.

Next time try some hair conditioner ...........

If you could tell us which grade your friend is in ,then we might  guess a suitable trinomial as per the academic standards. Could you post the picture of the questions we might understand his handwriting.

Good Luck

I am not expert in calculus,I am still learning...but that was basic and as all the lessons at MathIsFun site, its also easy to understand ,and I like it...

Just as anonimnystefy said ,in future it would be good to have a page which have all the links to calculus..like functions, limits, differential calculus, integral calculus, some special trigonometric relations,I know it will take time,so keep it up.

Good Luck

Ya, I understood that one wink, but he said the question is ill posted and it could be  any trinomial ,so what we are going to factorise?

No, that would be very easy:

What else could it be?

No that would be

BTW I didnt understood your main question...

#87 Re: Help Me ! » Could you help me find points from x + y = 0 and 3x + y = -4 » 2012-07-25 21:26:44

No ,I did it algebraically ,you dont have to graph those four points.
And what solution your are asking about,I think SlowlyFading asked about two points (coordinates) from the two equations and I show him how.
He asked

I need two points from each problem!

If he asked something else then I don't know...

Good Luck

#88 Re: Help Me ! » Could you help me find points from x + y = 0 and 3x + y = -4 » 2012-07-25 20:35:55

For the first equation the line crosses through the origin so you have to guess x and y anything other than 0
Let x = 1

Substitute x by 1

Subtract 1 from both the sides

Now for the other point let x = 2

Substitute x by 2

Subtract 2 from both the sides

So the two points for the equation
is
and

For the second equation you can use intercept...
First point for the equation

Let x be 0
Substitute x by 0

Now for the other point
Let y = 0
Substitute y by 0

So the two points for the equation
is
and

First of all thanks to everybody for your replies..

@bob bundy
Thanks and I think "anonimnystefy" mentioned the same process.

I thought of this process earlier as its already solved and I just needed to rearrange it, but it was too lengthy and I thought their might be a simpler way to do it...but now I thing I might be wrong.

If anybody knows any easier process please let me(us) know. I will keep an eye on this post...

Anyway thanks again

Hi its my first post in this forum...

The question is from a complex number problem I was doing ... but at a point I could not understood how it has been done.

Question : if

,find the value of

Solution :

Now,

I didn't understood this part

What I didn't understood was how the quartic equation

was rewritten to
,whats the process to do that.I could see that the quadratic equation has been used as a factor...

Hope I am clear about my problem
