What about 3534 : 4712 : 5890?

There is no right triangle with a hypotenuse of 5903 units.

Re: Add 13 more and post it forever.

Yea, that squirrely program missed that one!

There are only 8 right triangles with a hypotenuse of 5916 and sides of a,b:

a = 1584  b = 5700
a = 1860   b = 5616
a = 2784  b=  5220
a = 4080  b = 4284
a = 4284  b = 4080
a = 5220  b = 2784
a = 5616  b = 1860
a = 5700  b = 1584

Oops! I can't add up! sad

My post #452 should had been about the number 5876, not 5877.

This should get us back on track:

59 - 28 is 13 backwards

Re: Add 13 more and post it forever.

5967(catchup)

There are 4 (ie, 1 + 3) right-angled triangles with a hypotenuse of 5980 (ie, 5+9-8^0 = 13) units.

They are:

1472 : 5796 : 5980
2300 : 5520 : 5980
3036 : 5152 : 5980
3588 : 4784 : 5980

These 12 numbers sum to 55568...and 5+5+5+6-8 = 13

Re: Add 13 more and post it forever.

Btw, Bobby, WolframAlpha couldn't handle the sum in my post #458. It conks out at the second power when square roots are combined with factorials (eg, sqrt(5!^9!) works, but sqrt(5!^9!^4!) doesn't). Without the square root, a "power of 10 representation" is given for many powers, but no "decimal approximation" after two powers.

You edited your post as I finished mine, I have edited this one with the new answers.

That is because it cannot deal with this :

That is what you are trying to get an answer to.That will cause an overflow.

That number in scientific notation is:

Re: Add 13 more and post it forever.

My little 143KB calculator handled that post #458 sum. It's accurate to 10,000 digits...which I've checked many times against W|A. It's generally very quick, but extremely slow at max capacity.

Did you check that post's sum? I've got nothing I can use to verify my calculator's results on that one, and I don't know of any website that would do it. What did you use for your calcs in your last post?

Sometimes different things do better or worse. Also did that program get the right answer? Did it evaluate the tower from top down or from bottom up? This is very important.

There are programs that can handle larger numbers than mathematica or maple. Maxima is one and so can Derive.

To get my answer I had to write a program for large power towers.

Okay,

6162 = 29^2 + 40^2 + 61^2

Re: Add 13 more and post it forever.

Hi Bobby,

Also did that program get the right answer?

I don't know, as I've got nothing that can check it and I don't know where to look for something that can handle such large numbers (other than downloading one of those programs you mentioned and trying it out there).

Did it evaluate the tower from top down or from bottom up?

From bottom up. I tried it from top down last night, and after an hour or more it said the numbers were too large. So I guess it did some truncating (or something else) upwards that it couldn't do downwards.

That probably means my answer is incorrect...and my pretty picture too. sad

Would you be able to check that for me?
