Re: In a building, which floor is the safest?

Those are all judgement sort of questions. You might consider that because there is an airport nearby the noise factor.

Which floor is the sfest for a snail?

Re: In a building, which floor is the safest?

Snails should live on the bottom floor because they do not move around very well.

Snails should live in the basement.

This sounds like actuarial maths.

It has not been established that there is a basement.

What is actuarial mathematics?

Let us assume there is

Re: In a building, which floor is the safest?

Is it something related to economics?

Re: In a building, which floor is the safest?

An actuary is a business professional who analyzes the financial consequences of risk. Actuaries use mathematics, statistics, and financial theory to study uncertain future events, especially those of concern to insurance and pension programs. Actuaries may work for insurance companies, consulting firms, government, employee benefits departments of large corporations, hospitals, banks and investment firms, or, more generally, in businesses that need to manage financial risk. A career as an Actuary is better described as a "business" career with a mathematical basis than as a "technical" mathematical career.

I know one well, he is an excellent mathematician.

Re: In a building, which floor is the safest?

No, I do not. He is the legendary David Sklansky, one of my early teachers. But I have seen some examples of actuarial math and just let me say most math types could not go through the problems.

I already have. Most of mine are like that. They are working mathematicians. They do applied math.

Look in Exercises, all the "Bitter", "Bafflers", "What do you think" are some good examples.

Re: In a building, which floor is the safest?

Nope, but an actuary if you read the definition uses a lot of probablity and statistics. Of course combinatorics is connected. They are about as tough as some of the actuarial exams are.

A certainly can not. How many people do you see in there answering them? I rest my case.

Yes, we had Ricky, JFF, but they are gone
