By the way: No, you do not sound like a loser. Life has many twists and turns; you are just doing things in a different order than other people.

So the numbers under the "Amount" heading refer to costs?
Is there a pre-determined policy for allocating that $3 that cannot be assigned to any of the companies?
At this point, I would just calculate the percentages using the numbers you have presented:
Company xxx: 10/30 = 1/3.
Apply this fraction to the (30 - 3 = 27): (1/3)(27) = $9
Company yyy: 8/30 = 8/30.
Apply this fraction to the 27: (8/30)(27) = $7.20
Company zzz: 9/30 = 3/10.
Apply this fraction to the 27: (3/10)(27) = $8.1
Alternately, you would calculate the initial proportions as 10/27, 8/27, and 9/27. But unless we are told the desired method, I am just guessing.
When you add the cost percentages, are they supposed to add up to a certain amount?
I didn't see this mentioned elsewhere in the forums, so thought I would mention it.
I think this is cool.
Google added some graphing functionality to its main search page. Here is the link from the Google blog introducing this feature:
"Showing some love to math lovers"

It also includes some sample curves, so users get an idea how to use this feature.
Enjoy.

New page: Systems of Linear Equations
It turned out really long, but that seems inevitable. Waddya think?
I think it is very good. Thorough and explained in an easy-to-understand manner.
Although I did wonder why most of the page was typed and some was handwritten. To be consistent, I think it should have been all typed.
Other than that, I think it is a job well-done.
Just in case this question comes up in the future, the following link might be useful, on Microsoft's support site:

Here is a site with several numerical mathematical utilities:
Numerical Mathematical Utilities
For example, it has utilities for solving the Quadratic, Cubic, and Quartic Equations; solving N Equations in N Unknowns; Eigenvalues and Eigenvectors; and more.
In addition to using the posted routines themselves, the references are good too, if anybody is interested in reading more. (And the NETLIB site, too, is a fantastic repository of information and source code.)

I have also found the online convertors at http://www.onlineconversion.com/ to be good.
Also, if you don't mind downloading a small program, there is also "Convert":
http://joshmadison.net/software/convert/
I have been using Convert for several years and never had a problem with it or a conversion it could not do. It is small, doesn't need an install program, just sits there on my desktop for when I need it, I just close it down when I am finished. Clean and slick.

Hi, everybody.
Joined MathisFun on Friday and never received the password e-mail. Maybe blocked it or something; I have joined a few other forums and had similar problems there too, and the Administrators of those forums indicated that myway.com is not liked by some forum software. Anyhow, I re-requested the e-mail and this time it worked. So I am here now.
A little about me:
I enjoy math and computer science; as a hobby, I have written several numerical linear algebra routines and posted many of them on my website. They are intended for upper-level high-school students or undergraduate university students, so I am not sure how appropriate they would be for these forums.
I presently live in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Well, I guess that is all for now. I'll try to make myself helpful around these forums where I can.
Regards,
David
