I am trying to pass a test to get my high school mathematics teachers license. I have passed the sections on number concepts and processes, geometry, and data analysis, statistics, and probability. I am have difficulty with functions, patterns, and the use of a graphing calculator. Any advice on how best to get a good understanding of these areas of math?
Hi Karney;
You did say to get a good understanding!
Functions, at least to get a beginning understanding, you can go to most calculus books. Patterns, if you mean spotting them, is an art form. You will need regression and differences. Graphing calculators, like any other CAS require experience. Just to pass you will need less, maybe just a marginal understanding. If you know what type of questions will be asked just post which ones you don't understand.
In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.
Always satisfy the Prime Directive of getting the right answer above all else.
