Re: Money Math

Hi Sarah Rebekah 13;

She has in cents:

9 * 25 + 2 * 10 + 2 * 1

225 + 20 + 2 = 247 cents = 2.47 dollars

Re: Money Math

Hi Sarah,

Did you understand it? Or do you need more explanation?

Re: Money Math

Hi Sarah;

Jill has 9 Quarters:

Q + Q + Q + Q + Q + Q + Q + Q + Q  each Quarter is worth 25 cents.

Jill has 2 dimes

D + D   each is worth 10 cents

Jill has 2 pennies

P + P  each is worth 1 cent. Lets add them all up.

    25
    25
    25
    25
    25
    25
    25
    25
    25
    10
    10
      1
+    1
---------
      7

Carry the 4:

    4
    25
    25

    25
    25
    25
    10
    10
      1
+    1
---------
  2.47

Is this clear? Hope the columns lined up right on your browser.

Re: Money Math

Hi Sarah;

So you should see why it is easier to multiply then to add all those coins. Supposing you had 1424 quarters, you would run out of paper. So please check my post #2 again.
