finding zeroes of a function

I need a crash course in finding the zeroes of a function (in general).  Somebody please reccommend a good way to quickly learn the basics of this.  Thanks.

Hi 56tracy;

Don't forget the visual side. That is the most powerful method for locating zeroes.

In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.
Always satisfy the Prime Directive of getting the right answer above all else.
