square, cube, then what?

Take 64.
64 is a cube of 4, but
it is also the square of 8
and 4 is a square of 2,
but 8 is a cube of 2.
So a cube squared is the
same as a square cubed
in this case.
Would anyone like to
comment on this?
And also what is the
short-names for raising
to the fourth power,
fifth, etc.  Are there
names for these?

Re: square, cube, then what?

hi John

So a square cubed = a cube squared for all numbers

I don't know a short name for 'raised to the fourth power' and so on.

I suspect this is because it's easy to visualise a square and a cube but after that it gets kinda hard so there isn't a common name.

Re: square, cube, then what?

Here are some ways to say the higher powers perhaps.

2 raised 8 is 256
3 raised 5 is 243
4 raised 4 is 256

or something I made up...

2 up 8 is 256
3 up 5 is 243
4 up 4 is 256

I think I made that up in high school in the 80's or
someone else said it.
