geometry

just started at geometry.

Two lines intersect such that the measure of each obtuse angle formed by the lines is three times the measure of each acute angle formed by the lines. What is the measure, in degrees, of an obtuse angle formed by the lines?

I see you have graph paper.

Re: geometry

Hi;

3x + x = 180

4x = 180

x = 45° that is the acute angle.

3x = 3 * 45 = 135° is the obtuse angle.

Re: geometry

What is the number of degrees in the smaller angle formed by the hands of a clock at 5:44?

Re: geometry

hi cooljackiec

At 5.44 the minute hand is pointing at exactly the 44 spot on the face.  So the angle between 00 minutes and 44 minutes will be 44/60 of 360 degrees ie. 6 degrees between each minute.

The hour hand will have moved somewhere between the 5 hour point and the 6 hour point.

That angle (5 - 6) is 5 x 6 = 30 degrees.  The hour hand is at 44/60 of that amount.  ie. 22 from the 5 point.  Put those two bits of information together and you will get the answer.

Asymptote, that is a program that another forum uses isn't it?

yes. It is in AoPS. How can we submit images other than hand drawing?

There are online drawing programs and there is the best, Geogebra!
