Required help to solve math homework problem

Three different containers have 496 liters,403 liters and 713 liters of mixtures of milk and water respectively. What biggest measure can measure all the different quantities exactly?

I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it.
All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof.
