Common binomial factors

Hey guys I'm stuck on these two particular problems. I have to factor a common binomial factor. But I just don't know what to do. If someone could explain, it would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance;

4y(y+1) - 7(y+1)^2

9(2x-5) + 6(2x-5)^2

Welcome to the forum.

Both of these have a bracket that occurs in both terms:  (y+1) in the first and (2x-5) in the second question.

So you can draw it out as a common factor:

Note what happens to the term that is squared.  To finish this off the square bracket must be simplified.

The second one is similar.  Post back your attempt and I'll check it for you.
