complex number problem

Hi, i am having troubles solving the below problem

I tried subbing in z=x+iy but i cant seem to remove the sqrt.

Can someone please guide me through solving this problem step-by-step. Thank you!

Square both sides. Square root will go.

Using brute force:

Solving for y,

Plugging both of those into this for y proves the assertion.

you are right in your own way but for a student I recommend the following.
