Hello everyone,
I am a personal trainer stuck with a math question.
The exercise is called the flag (see picture below) and this is my question.
I am 183 cm long. and weigh 85 kilo. The lower arm has a 45 degree angle, arm is about 60 sm long
how much weight does the lower arm has to press up?
The reason why I want to know is because. I have to train the shoulder with a diffrent exercise first
(shoulder press) and I want to know how much weight I should be able to press.
How it is done:
The Top Arm
Despite what it may look like, the top arm really doesn't do much. It DOESN'T pull you up horizontal, as I'll explain below. Just keep the arm straight and hold on tight.
The Bottom Arm
The bottom arm is the secret behind the flag. It's what will get your body flying horizontal, instead of just hanging there. What you want to do with the bottom arm is PRESS!!! Really press and work to extend your shoulder.
Can someone help me with this one?
Is your center of mass around your belly button or are your arms really big and your legs small, as this would make the force needed less. Also ask this question on ilovephysics.com if we don't answer well. Read about torque too.
