Can anyone help with equations?

Write the equation of the line which passes through the point (2, 1) and is parallel to the line with equation y =5/2x + 6 .

Re: Can anyone help with equations?

two lines are parallel when they have equal gradients, so we have

y = 5/2x + c.

now substitute the coordinate value on the line we need, (2,1)

1 = 5/2×2 + c
1 = 10/2 + c
c = 1-10/2 = -8/2 = -4

so the line equation is

y = 5/2x - 4
