Division

Hello. I am looking for a way to divide muti digit numbers for example 8735 by 648. I will need to be able to calculate quickly without pen and paper or calculators.

Re: Division

What?! faint well, I suppose I can help you a bit. Start from the right and divide the numbers like that, then write your answer. Easy.

Re: Division

Remote, are you referring to the long-term division method, eg. the bus-stop method? I don't use that method, but it may be good for people who aren't very good at division.

Would those examples from that page apply to the same examples I posted above?

Yes, they would.

For instance, note the 56 and the 8 in your division sum. How many times does 8 go into 5600?

Re: Division

That doesn't work! 8 goes into 56 seven times, but 5678 doesn't go into 897 seven times.
Using that method, you'd eventually end up dealing with negatives and complicating it for yourself.

Why did the vector cross the road?
It wanted to be normal.

Re: Division

I must be daydreaming. Yea, I was wrong. Can't believe I said that. O.o

Just take 5678 and divide by 897 as normal. big_smile

Re: Division

Long division? Ultra hard. Since I'm almost about to go to high school, I've got to learn stuff like 3xY+X-2H=3728DNH.
