Percentage

In a certain. country, 40% of the population own a car and of these 90% are male. The two sexes are equally represented in the population.

What percentage of women do not own a car?

One good way to handle percentages is to assume some specific "base" and convert to "actual" numbers.  Suppose this country has a population of 100 people, 50 male and 50 female.  40 people own a car and 90% of these, 36, are male.  That leaves 4 females who own a car and 4 females are 4/50= 8% of the females.  8% of the females in this country own a car so 92% do not own a car.  You could also, of course, do that by saying that since 4 of the 50 females own a car, 50-4= 46 do not and that is 46/50= 92% of the females.
