That's a fair point, but the ice cream increases twice in it's volume, therefore 1+1 = ... 2. tongue

Or 2*1 = 2.

The essence of counting is identity. Though the last scoop is one ball, but it cannot be considered equivalent to either of the original two scoops.

Re: I used to think 1 add 1 was 2, but now...

Let's put it this way ... if I dug a hole and told you to close one eye so you could only see half of the hole, you could say that you could see half of the whole hole. But through your eye you could observe that you could still see a hole, even if it was only half of the original. Back to the concept of identity ... though the half-hole is still a hole, it cannot be considered equivalent to the original hole ... but that is if you see a hole as a value, and see half of the whole hole as a value in its own ... etc.

A Hole is not a valid source for numerical arguements.

Boy let me tell you what:
I bet you didn't know it, but I'm a fiddle player too.
And if you'd care to take a dare, I'll make a bet with you.

well, these things are arguing about things that differ in quantity, not total number...

I shall be on leave until I say so...
