math emergency HELP!

DUE TOMORROW AND IM IN TROUBLE...ANY HELP SOOOOO APPRECIATED!

1. the powers of 10 nearest in value to 10^2004, but not equal to it, are 10^a nad 10^b. what is the value of a+b? [NOTE: a power of 10 is an integer of the form 10^n, where n is an integer.]

2. If a^2-b^2 is not = to 0, then, in terms of a and b, what are both solutions of
                                  (a^2-b^2)x^2-(a^2+b^2)x + ab=0?

3. Waht are all values of x that satisfy x(squareroot of x) - 2(square root of x) =x

Re: math emergency HELP!

1.  If by nearest, you mean distance, then go lower, because if you go higher it is 10 times higher and 100 times higher, which is a long long way.  So I would go with 10 times lower and 100 times lower than 10^2004.  Do you know how to do this?
Remember that 10^5 means 10 tmz 10 tmz 10 tmz 10 tmz 10, where "tmz" means multiply.
Good Luck.

2.  I would use the memorized "negative b plus or minus the square root of b squared minus 4 a c, all over 2 a.     You can use the quadratic formula when ax^2 + bx + c = zero.
The 2 answers are on the x-axis for the graph if zero said "y".

3.  Note that (x-2)/x = sqrt(x).  This is neat because I have seen some really neat
numbers on my calculator like 3.7320508 and 1.7320508 and stuff like that, the square root of 3, but that is sort of related, but just maybe.  Avoiding algebra, I get near -2.875 for one value, but you should use algebra I think, unless you are taking a course in guessing,
my favorite way!! smile  WooPs, I was wrong, you can't square root a negative number!!!
