I need the answers to these problems PRONTO.THANX

1. -2 5/12(5/12+n)=-6235/1008

2. 9/5(v+5 7/12)=39/4

3. -10-11x=739/24

4. l 5-4p l=-7

5. l 1-8r l=1

6. l -3.1+n l=9.1

7. 1/7(-4/3n+4/3) + 13/4n=n+2061/224

8. 1/2(-2n+1/2)=27/20-3/5n

9. 3/8(n-1/2)=27/20-3/5n

10. 3/8(n-1/2)=3/5n-543/400

11. 3.2x-37.9265=1.814-7.9(1-7.36x)

12. 4.4-4.6(x+6)=-28.7-3.6x

13. -6.1p-3.8(p+1.3)=-6.9p-27.74

Is this your homework by any chance? These equations are all having one variable only and are pretty easy to solve. Please try them yourself and if you find it difficult to solve, post them here!

I notice there's a lot of fractions in these, so that might be where you find difficulty. Here's some rules to help:

1.

2.

3.

I've also noticed you've got stuff like this in those equations: |3-r|

The bar notation means that if the answer is negative, then remove the negative sign. It wants what we call the "absolute value". What worries me is that this is one of your questions is...

4. l 5-4p l=-7

...which doesn't really make sense.

Normally these questions have two answers. One which will give you a positive answer and one that gives you a negative answer (which is then changed to a positive answer because of the bars).

To solve these, take this example:

| 10 - x | = 7

To solve for x, you need to first solve for when the answer was positive without the effect of the bars. You can take the bars out of the equation first. So:

10 - x = 7

- x = -3

x = 3

Next you need to solve for the fact that the 7 could be positive because of the bars. So drop the bars and make the 7 a negative number:

10 - x = -7

-x = -17

x = 17

So the answers to |10 - x| = 7 is 3 or 17.

Trillian: Five to one against and falling. Four to one against and falling Three to one, two, one. Probability factor of one to one. We have normality. I repeat, we have normality. Anything you still cant cope with is therefore your own problem.

13. -6.1p-3.8(p+1.3)=-6.9p-27.74

For those numbers you solve it normally as if the decimal fractions were integers.

Hi HannahBanana,

I do not know whether you know how to solve linear equations or not;yes it seems like your school homework and if you don't know then I would recommend you to first read Solving Equationsin Maths is fun(and you may practice the exercises in there as well) and then try to solve the questions yourself.

Practice makes a man perfect.

If you want the answers, you have to show us your best effort at trying to solve them first.

I think he missed his deadline.

Why are we even bothering with homework that is 10 years out of date?

Besides which, I'm not sure I like the PRONTO. THANX .... (1) Pronto seems a bit demanding; (2) Thanks isn't even spelt correctly .

hi Monox D. I-Fly

I just wanted to practice

OK that's fine. I have a favour to ask. If you pick up an old thread and make a comment, I spend time looking at the problem before realising there's no point as it's too late to offer the original poster any help. But if you try the questions and need help yourself, then I'm very willing to help if I can. So please would you make it clear which of these alternatives applies so I know what to do. Thanks a lot,

Bob

It's the first one, so I think you can ignore me in this regard.
