Counting Question - Binomial theorem

How do you convert a sum in closed form into using the summation symbol and using an ellipsis.

Qns 1:
n(1+x)^{n-1}

You use the binomial theorem...  But I'm not entirely certain what it is you're asking.

Typically, you use a summation symbol or an ellipsis.  For example, you have an n degree polynomial, we can represent this by:
