Children work round web controls
British parents grossly underestimate how much time their children spend on the net, suggests a report.
Written by security firm Symantec, it found that UK parents believe their children are online for 18.8 hours per month. The true figure is 43.5 hours.
The report found that British parents were among those with the worst grasp of how long their children are online.

That depends on their productivity, I would say it's stupid if those kids just spent tireless hours on some video game...
If it's educational, I see little wrong with it.

I find that sometimes I need to spend "tireless hours" playing video games to keep my sanity. As long as you have a balance in your social and educational lives, playing video games in my opinion is ok, even for durations that some others would consider excessive. It's only when it affects other parts of your life is it a problem.
I can easily say that at certain points of my life I spent over 20 hours a month playing games, and for the most part don't regret a minute of it.
"In the real world, this would be a problem. But in mathematics, we can just define a place where this problem doesn't exist. So we'll go ahead and do that now..."

I'd estimate that I'm on the internet for over double that per month, though much of it is productive.

My worst habit is not games, but news (of all varieties, from current affairs to the latest funny videos). I love checking what is new in the world.
But I treat it as a reward, so when I make some sort of progress I go "yay, now let us see what is happening in the world"
But I do remember a time when I would stay up for hours on Doom or Quake. Fond memories.

Things like that can be so addictive. I'm glad I got out of playing a certain game, which was eating up about 5 hours of my day (just in playing time, not including thinking about it )

It's not how long they're online for, but what they do when they're online that's important. Are they watching stuff they're not supposed to watch, for example?

I have Animal Crossing for the DS! I haven't been on it in months. I finished playing after I got all the fish and bugs (hated the tarantula ) and I'm just missing some of the Gyroids. I mean to get it for the Wii.

How did this thread suddenly turn to Animal Crossing?

Ok.... Anyway back to the subject of the topic! I heard that they've got this program that lets parents see whatever children type to people on wireless connections. And they've made ball-and-chains to keep children to they're desk while they do their homework, it has a set timer so it lets you go only when you finish your homework.

No offense Ricky but I almost want to laugh! That's what, like 40 minutes a day? My parents only wish I played that little when I was younger!
If you consider that excessive than I'd say you have very good self control/discipline wish i had that

Me too! The Wii is much better than the DS, I hate the scorpian and tarantula they chase you. O_o
If you get it for the Wii I could tell you what happens if you befriend Brewster. xDD
