Percent problem, please solve and explain

In a class of 200 students, 120 students take German, and 100 study French.  If a student must study at least one of these languages, what percent of the students study French but not German?  Thanks!

Re: Percent problem, please solve and explain

There are 200 students taking 220 subjects, so that means 20 students must be taking both (since none take neither).

Hence 100 students take only German and 80 take only French.
The percentage that take only French is 80/200 = 0.4 = 40%

Why did the vector cross the road?
It wanted to be normal.
