Brainteaser ( tough one, i guess )

okay here is the puzzle ..

there is an old shopkeeper, who has a two pan balance ( old scale ), the old man has a 40 Kg one piece weight, so he went to the blacksmith, and asked him to make 4 weighing pieces out of that 40 Kg weight, with a condition that the 4 pieces will be sufficient to weigh any number from 1 to 40. dizzy


what should the weights of the pieces be? big_smile

This is an oldie but goodie problem, 1,3,9,27 are the weight of the rocks.
