inequality question

OK, the solution to a compound inequality problem I did is X is less than -2 and X is less than 3.  My solution is correct, however, how do you show this on a line graph?  My book shows this to be an open dot on the negative 2 with the arrow pointing left of course.  I don't get the graph part.

The graph is simply showing all values of X that satisfy both X<-2 and X<3.  The open dot simply means that -2 isn't part of the solution, but everything less than -2 is part of the solution.
