Re: Rearranging Formulae

a = √d/be

is the square root sign just over d or is it over d/be?

if it just over d, here is the re arranged formula:

a*be = (√d)/(be) * be
abe = √d
(abe)^2  = (√d)^2
a^2*b^2*e^2 = d or d = (abe)^2

if the square root sign is over d/be, here is the rearranged formual:

a = √d/be
a^2 = (√d/be)^2
a^2 = d/be
a^2 * be = d/be * be
a^2 * be = d

Re: Rearranging Formulae

Hi catherine92;

Welcome to the forum!

Try to use parentheses to eliminate confusion. As careless25 points out it is tough to understand   a=√d/be. If you use a=√( d / be ) it looks a lot better and there is no confusion.

I know that it is becoming kind of popular on forums. to use a=√d/be to mean a=√( d / be ) or 1/x^2+3x+5 to mean 1 / ( x^2+3x+5 ), but that is just a poor method and delays getting your questions answered.

In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.
Always satisfy the Prime Directive of getting the right answer above all else.
