Z score value?

I have never heard of this...

A normal distribution has a mean of 23.5 and a standard deviation of 3.51.  Find the data value corresponding to a z-score value of 1.32.

I asked 2 friends, here is what we came up with for answers:

34.63
28.27
27.41
18.73

Who is correct?

Re: Z score value?

Hi casper0611;

None of those answers are correct.

23.5-1.32*3.51 = 18.8668

23.5+1.32*3.51 = 28.1332

So 28.1332 and 18.8668 are both 1.32 sd's from the mean

In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.
Always satisfy the Prime Directive of getting the right answer above all else.
