average absences

I have to work out the average absences of an organisation in a year.  Can anyone tell me how to this please.  Do I add up the number of days taken off during the year and divide it by the actual number of occasions?

Re: average absences

Hi wh1;

I am not following you, supposing that Fred was out 5 days and Joe missed 9 days and Jack was sick 3 days in your company. Wouldn't you just say the average absences were (5 + 9 + 3)/3 = 17 / 3? What is the problem with dividing the total # of days out by the number of sick people? Or by the total number of employees?

In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.
Always satisfy the Prime Directive of getting the right answer above all else.
