calculation the normal vector of each point

Hi,
I want to calculate the normal vector of each point from the point clouds obtained by a 3d laser scanner. Data is in cartesian coordinate system. Accordings to papers with links below, this can be solved with sobel filter or computing the tangents in each point along the two scanning directions using transformation between cartesian and polar coordinate system. Please tell me if its possible to do with coordinate system transformation cuz i cant find any data about sobel filter for 3d. Thank you very much.

hier is the link http://www.mediafire.com/?minjzizjd5z
