propability

The probability that an industry will locate at Lahore is 0.7, the probability that it will locate at Karachi is 0.4 and the probability that it will locate in either of the two cities or both is 0.8. What is the probability that it will locate: a. In both cities. b. In neither city.

Re: propability

Hi alikhan007;

Turn to your Venn diagrams. Draw two circles inside a rectangle with some overlap. Label the bigger circle L and assign .7 to it. Label the little circle K and assign .4 to it. The overlapping part gets a .3.

P(L) + P(K) - P(l intersect K)

.7 + .4 + P(l intersect K) = .8

P(l intersect K) = .3

Assign a .t to the recatangle that does not contain the 2 circles. You are done!
