Re: Help with 3rd question please???

Hi;

You need to get the x all by itself on one side.

So clear the fraction on the left by multiplying by d on both sides.

Denominator cancels on the left.

Same as the 2nd question try to go the last step yourself.

Re: Help with 3rd question please???

Well thanks for the answer on the first question. I'll keep posting the other five around the internet until I can get them answered.

Well thanks for the answer on the first question. I'll keep posting the other five around the internet until I can get them answered.

My lord I have run into my twin!
I would have said that when I was your age and did.
So you want to be like me, the real mister scary!
The big disgrace of my family. A man who disappoints his Mama and Dada.

Now come on you just have get rid of that b on the left.
Here is a hint you use the inverse operation. b * x is a multiplication.
The inverse is division. Try dividing both sides by b. Come on man these are the easy ones.
Just think if you learn how you can do them all. Give it a try, 1 more step.

Re: Help with 3rd question please???

Hi;

I will do this one to demonstrate. You have to get the x by itself. That b has got to go. It is connected by multiplication to that x. To get rid of it you divide by b, like this.

Can you clean that left hand side up now?

Re: Help with 3rd question please???

No, and that's why I came here. But now I see that I'm just going to have to get the answers to questions 2, 3 and 6 wrong on this stupid test I have to take.

Thank you for your time and effort.

Re: Help with 3rd question please???

We are here:

Again you can cancel things that are the same on top and bottom.

Now you are left with just the x we want. Yes or no?

Re: Help with 3rd question please???

Yes I see an x that's left and that's all I understand about what you did there.

Re: Help with 3rd question please???

That is enough. Do you see what I did just a litte? Cause we are done with this one. We wanted to solve for x, to get x by itself.

This what we get after those cancellations.

Recognize that?

Re: Help with 3rd question please???

I see that it contains the same letters as one of the possible answers, but the letters are out of order.

Re: Help with 3rd question please???

Okay, good point. This explanation is adequate for what we are doing. Multiplication is commutative. Meaning you can switch them around without changing them. You know that 5 * 6 is the same as 6 * 5 or 1 * 3 * 6 is the same as 6 * 1 * 3. In short order does not count.

Re: Help with 3rd question please???

Everybody starts that way. You, me, Isaac Newton. Everyone starts as a dummy. You do not stay a dummy. Here is a little secret everyone gets better. Everyone changes all the time. Did you understand the fancy part up there about the order. If you did you can now pick the correct answer.

Re: Help with 3rd question please???

Glad to help man. Hope you change your mind about not wanting to do math ever again.
You do not know it but you are better at it than you know. If you do quit math forever, remember this:

You will have pay other people to do math for you. You will have to pay them well. You will have to trust them.
