another question

carolina starts on a 58 mile trip on her moped at 20 miles an hour. after a while the motor quits and she pedals the remainder of the trip at 12 mph. the entire trip took 3.5 hours. how far had carolina traveled when the motor on the moped quit?

Thanks for the help

Re: another question

Hi lovethegto;

Have you checked the other links for the answers there? Please do, so that you can tell me if you understand it.

m = the time on the moped
p = the time she was pedalling

You get the following equations:

Easy to solve:

m = 2 hrs
p = 3 / 2 hrs

So she rode for 2 hours and pedalled for an hour and a half.

In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.
Always satisfy the Prime Directive of getting the right answer above all else.
