fractional calculus/gamma function help

hello, i've just been reading up on a wiki article about fractional calculus. i understand what it is, but i just don't follow their calculations. for example they say that:

but i thought that gamma(2) = 1 and that gamma(1.5) = (√π)/2 ? this is the only step here that i don't follow at all

Hi magic_box

That answer is correct.

Welcome to the forum.

In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.

Re: fractional calculus/gamma function help

hi,

thanks!! darn, i am so stupid, i didnt even bother to evaluate it. agh......... thanks for your help!  smile

also, do you know how to do complex derivatives? i.e.

?

also, is there a general formula for fractional integration, like the one given in the wiki article?

thanks!

Re: fractional calculus/gamma function help

You are in hard territory here.

This is covered in the fractional calculus.

I have never heard of a complex derivative like you describe. I have heard of a derivative of a complex function but not that. What is it?

Re: fractional calculus/gamma function help

Hi;

Beats me. I got that in my notes and I took it from here:
