Formula To Get Gross Number

January 9, 2011

Dear Forum,

   What formula would I use to find the gross number when

all I have is the percentage and the net number?

   Ie: 100 minus 10% equals 90.  How do I get the 100 if all

I have is the 10% reduction figure and the 90 outcome?

   Thank you in advance.  I await your reply.

                                       Sincerely,

                                       Al Charles

Re: Formula To Get Gross Number

Hi Al Charles;

Welcome to the forum.

What you really said was in percentages

So to go the other way you have:

x = 100

Re: Formula To Get Gross Number

Dear Bobby,

   I'm still a bit perplexed by your formula, so I'm

going to give you another set of numbers and hope

they make the formula clearer to me.

   1940 minus 8.3% equals 1778.98.

   You have 8.3% and 1778.98.  Get me to 1940.

   Thank you in advance.

Re: Formula To Get Gross Number

Hi Al;

Take the 1778.98 and the 8.3 percent put it into this formula:

Re: Formula To Get Gross Number

Hi Al;

Just put your new numbers in the same spots where the 1778.98 and the 8.3 went to do another one.
