Re: please help meeee... identification number and repetitions

Hi suhana,

a)
There are 5 ways to choose the first alphabet, and 4 ways to choose the second.(since no repetitions allowed). Therefore, 5*4 ways in total.
There are 9 ways to choose first digit, 8 for the second ... Hence 9*8*7*6*5 for the digits.
Totally, (5*4)*(9*8*7*6*5)

b)
Only one way for the first alphabet, and 4 for the 2nd. = 1*4 ways
1 way for the last digit, hence 8*7*6*5 ways for the digits.
In total (1*4)*(8*7*6*5*1) ways

Re: please help meeee... identification number and repetitions

Well, what I used is permutations.
More important than the formula is to understand it.
Check this: http://www.mathsisfun.com/combinatorics/combinations-permutations.html
Don't get stressed, enjoy it!

(b)     (1*4)*(8*7*6*5*1*)

Ask the question, I'll tell if I know.
