logorithims

hi im having problems with sums like log(base)1/2 8  and (log32)/(log8) can some1 plz help me i dont understand this and i keep runing into it.
any help will be gladly acepted

log(base)1/2 8

You are really saying what power must I raise 1 / 2 to, to get 8. Algebraically we say it like this:

Well 2^3 is 8 so 2^(-3) = 1 / 8. That is your answer.
