Add '31x' to each side of the equation.
140 + 31x = 62311 + -31x + 31x

31x = 62311 + -140
62311 + -140 = 62171
31x = 62171
Divide each side by '31'.
x = 2005.

These last two posts made me laugh. I wonder when you will 'see me'? Maybe it'll happen one day (and I look forward to it! ) but, in the meantime, here is a suggestion for you.
It seems to me, looking at your struggles with these questions, that you would have got on much better if the numbers had been simpler to start with. And plottable on a graph where the axes go from -10 to +10.
If you would like some practice with such problems, I'm happy to make some up for you and check your answers. I'll start with an easy one to give you some confidence, and gradually make them harder at a pace that suits you.
