more rearranging

Hi,

I was hoping someone could explain why

3/√x + √x = 3/√x + √x.√x/√X

when then simplifies further to

3+x/√x

hi planetdomi

We try to use the code language Latex for maths expressions and all bobbym was trying to check was that he had got the question right.

I'll assume he has and carry on from there.

As one term is a fraction and the other isn't (yet) one way to simplify is to put both terms over the same demoninator:

planetdomi,

you need grouping symbols.  For example,
you must enclose the numerator for your final expression.
The product of that fraction in your first line worked out
because of a fluke.  Also, use the same lower case letter
throughout the exercise for the same variable. 


Look at this:


3/√x + √x =


3√x  + (√x/1)(√x/√x) =


3/√x + x/√x =


(3 + x)/√x


Signature line:

I wish a had a more interesting signature line.
