NEED***HELP!! Natural Exponential Function

find y' for y=e^tan^x^3

I do not know how to find the derivative of this!!

My answer was e^tan^x^3(cot 3x^2) but believe this is totally wrong

Re: NEED***HELP!! Natural Exponential Function

Hi CalculusWANNABE;

I can not understand tan^x^3?

In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.
Always satisfy the Prime Directive of getting the right answer above all else.

So you have this?

No problem, is this what you need?

Re: NEED***HELP!! Natural Exponential Function

hi CalculusWANNABE

use the chain rule:

f(x)=e^x and g(x)=tan(x^3)

(f(g(x)))'=g'(x)*f'(g(x))

now to get g'(x) we use the chain rule again taking:

h(x)=tan x and t(x)=x^3

(h(t(x)))'=t'(x)*h'(t(x))

Re: NEED***HELP!! Natural Exponential Function

Hi;

Use the substitution u = tan(x^3) and then use the chain rule.
