Re: Oh,Oh,Oh,merry analysis!!!

Supposing you did not know that. Could you at least provide a plausibility argument?

Re: Oh,Oh,Oh,merry analysis!!!

Maybe we could use a convergence test?

Hmmmm. Try not to think like a book mathematician. Throw that book right out the window and be careful not to hit some one.

To get credit here you need a new idea.

Re: Oh,Oh,Oh,merry analysis!!!

So using big Oh. Well maybe we should sum the forst few terms and then...

Re: Oh,Oh,Oh,merry analysis!!!

First question:

Supposing we follow your suggestion how many terms would we need to get 6 digits of accuracy?

What kind of series are we dealing with?

Harmonic. And alternating.

Re: Oh,Oh,Oh,merry analysis!!!

Alternating is correct. What is the most important rule of convergence for an alternating series?

Re: Oh,Oh,Oh,merry analysis!!!

Uncle Leibniz says that it converges because the terms if the alternating series converge monotonically to 0.

Yes, we know it converges. What can you say about the rate of convergence that answers my question?

Re: Oh,Oh,Oh,merry analysis!!!

I would like 6 accurate digits. That would suggest to me the ln(2) answer.

Re: Oh,Oh,Oh,merry analysis!!!

We are estimating the entire series by the first 3 terms. the tail is

all the terms that are left over.
