joke about pi

Back in the good old US of A there exists a small group of poor farmers and labourers known as
"Hillbillies". Having pinched and saved for several years, one Hillbilly family finally managed
to send its eldest son off to University to make something of himself. At the end of his first
year, the son proudly returned home, intent on displaying his new-found knowledge.

"Well son, tell us'n what great things y'all larned at that thar ooniversity." requested the
father. The son thought for a few minutes, and then thought for a few minutes more. Finally, in
a brilliant display of mathematical fortitude, he said "pi r^2".

The father looked at his son for several minutes in shocked amazement, sadly shaking his head.
"Why son", he said, "everybody knows that pie are round - cornbread's squared".

Good one, Se7en!
And your username is a tongue-twister smile

Gahnesh, I believe it's just pronounced "Seven."  Se7en is the name of a movie concerning the seven deadly sins.

Re: joke about pi

It could probably be Selen. Why? Because I saw on some other forums there are people who input the 'l' as '7' as in '1337', but it could be how you pronounced it, krassi_holmz.

Re: joke about pi

7 is a 't', 1337 is leet, as in elite.  1 is 'l'

Re: joke about pi

I thought it was the other way round.

1337 read upside down is Leet, so I think 7 is L.

Re: joke about pi

I've never heard of it thought that way, but 1 is definitely L and 7 is definitely T.

Re: joke about pi

maybe you'll have heard of the expression "pwned" which is derived from the word "owned".  I recently read a question asking how this word was to be pronounced, many people had many thories.  My theory is that since it is internet slag, the word was not meant to be pronounced (only typed) and thus the internet is spawning a global language that has no pronounciation.  Do any other languages such as this exist?

Re: joke about pi

Thanks for explanation, krazzi. I was confused to see that bunch of strange letters and numbers.

Even though if 'pwned' isn't pronounced, only typed, I still pronounce it as 'pawned' somehow. Maybe I thought every word should suppose to have a pronounciation.

And I think other languages of slang do exist.

Other languages? Crane operators use 'vira' for up and 'majna' [mie-nah] for down. All around the world.

Re: joke about pi

pwnd should be pronounced owned, just like you don't say, "one thousand three hundred and thirty seven" (1337), you just say leet.

And no, there have been no languages which have no pronunciation because language came first, writing came second.

Re: joke about pi

I pronounce the word as it looks, not of the original meaning.

BTW, 1337 can be pronounced as one thousand three hundred thirty seven, depending where it is used. Because you wouldn't say 'leet' to your maths teacher, would you?
