Probability

A six sided die is rolled twice. One of the rolls gives 4. What is the probability that the other one will give 5.

Re: Probability

Hi coolguy;

Tricky wording. I say 1 / 18 my brother says 1 / 6.

In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.

Re: Probability

hi bobbym,

How are you today?  And what about your brother?

That wording isn't tricky to me.  We're only asked about the second roll.

Re: Probability

Hi Bob;

I am okay, How are you?

That is what my brother thinks too. I thought of it in terms of the sample space. There are 36 possible throws, 2 of them fit the conditions, (4,5) and (5,4). 2 / 36 = 1 / 18.

But now it is 2 to1 against that idea! I can not remember the last time I got a probability problem wrong so...

My brother asked to me point out that the last error was yesterday, a mere 5 hours ago.

Against my wishes my parents had to have more children.
