Re: 0^0 equals 1 or undefined?

That is the point! It is one, I agree! But it is also .9999999999...

Do it term by term, it is

.9 + .09 + .009 + .0009 + .00009 + .000009 + ... +

obviously .99999999999... and you used the geometric sum to say it equals 1.

Re: 0^0 equals 1 or undefined?

There is no reason that that sum should be equal 0.999...

Please look at the preceding post again. That sum produces an endless bunch of nines! You said it was one because you used this formula

sort of shows that if we do not agree with .999999999... = 1, we have to give that up. I do not want to give it up. It works!

No, no. I disagree that that sum is equal to 0.999...

Re: 0^0 equals 1 or undefined?

.9 = .9

.9 + .09 = .99

.9 + .09 + .009 = .999

.9 + .09 + .009 + .0009 = .9999

.9 + .09 + .009 + .0009 + .00009 = .99999
.
.
.

looks to me like it agrees with .9999999...

Re: 0^0 equals 1 or undefined?

I do not see 0.999... anywhere in there.

Okay, then in other words you do not agree with any other non terminating decimal?

Then

3 ( 1 / 3 ) = 3 ( .33333333333...)

1 = .999999999999...

Nope.

3*0.333... is equal to 1.

I am not following you.

There is a difference between .333... and .333333333... and .333333333333333... ?

No, of course not. I am just saying that the product of 3 and non-terminating 3's is 1, and not 0.999...

You do not think that

3 (.333333333333...)  = (.999999999999...) ?

No. because I think that the number on the right should be barred from mathematics.

Yes, it is someone who defends impossible positions to irk someone else. Someone who is so old that the slightest annoyance can kill him.
