Ultimate Answer to Life, The Universe and Everything

544657_439710829440661_1467888596_n.jpg

Is there a real purpose of Life, The Universe and Everything apart from this?

Re: Ultimate Answer to Life, The Universe and Everything

Hi;

I would have thought it would not be an integer and that the meaning of life was

1.83801769501050385269531439813992926843308653301263139425699189822880090555291822278610613549770119573214...

But God created the integers only

So Kronecker says.

hi Agnishom,

If you liked Douglas Adam's Hitchhiker series, you will also like his two books about the Dirk Gently holistic detective agency.  Both in book form and one was made into a BBC series.

A sad loss to comedy writing.  sad

Re: Ultimate Answer to Life, The Universe and Everything

Okay, but what do you think is the purpose of life?

To be on some forum doing mathematics of course.

Re: Ultimate Answer to Life, The Universe and Everything

So we have already fulfiled our purpose?

Why are we still alive?

I do not know for sure but you will have a long and great life ahead of you. When you get to the end of it
you might know.

Re: Ultimate Answer to Life, The Universe and Everything

The universe? What is the reason behind such a (seemingly) vast non-sense object being there in existence?

BTW, I am really not sure whether I want to live for long

Re: Ultimate Answer to Life, The Universe and Everything

Hmmm, you do not have to live a lot of years to live a long life.

The universe, that was built and is maintained by somebody else. I have no idea why except to
say have you ever kept a fish tank?

Re: Ultimate Answer to Life, The Universe and Everything

You create an environment for life. You build it and design new features. When it is done
you watch all the fish swim back and forth. Maybe that's what God is.

Re: Ultimate Answer to Life, The Universe and Everything

And perhaps that OUR God is also an experimental creature made by some Second order God or the God of Gods

Re: Ultimate Answer to Life, The Universe and Everything

There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable.
There is another theory which states that this has already happened.

Re: Ultimate Answer to Life, The Universe and Everything

So maybe it would be a good idea for us to stop trying to guess what it is for.

Re: Ultimate Answer to Life, The Universe and Everything

Yeah, but we need to prove the theory first

Re: Ultimate Answer to Life, The Universe and Everything

We can not really prove anything in Cosmology. We can come up with a plausible theory that fits the currently known observations. If it makes a few good predictions we keep it, if not we dump it.

Not really, that is what I like about mathematics. We have some degree of certainty.
