Why was I banned?

Even if I talked to the admin on Gmail, why did it direct to me and who was supposed to get the ban?

Re: Why was I banned?

Hi;

Probably an old list that needed updating. Sorry for the trouble you were caused my friend.

Re: Why was I banned?

Old list? Meaning the user list?

Re: Why was I banned?

It was an old ban to stop spammers. Julian unluckily had an IP address that matched. I had to find the right one to delete.

Should we remove those old bans perhaps? Some may be needed, some may not, and it is hard to tell.

It is a list of people that are barred. It needs constant upkeep and you have been given the ip of one of them.

Re: Why was I banned?

In case you don't know about IPs, when you connect to the internet you are given an IP address (like 123.123.123.123). When spammers hit us we can ban their IP, which helps a bit, but then they come back on another IP. So we have long lists of IPs that have been banned, and your internet connection matched up. Could happen to any of us really.

Re: Why was I banned?

Your IP looks like it is dynamic and therefore you could have changed it easily.

Re: Why was I banned?

Yes. When will there be an IP address that there are 5 numbers, e.g. 123.123.123.123.123 ?

Re: Why was I banned?

I believe they are going to more numbers soon due to the increase of people on the internet.

If you ever have that problem again, just restart your machine that might give you another IP and allow you to enter the forum.

Re: Why was I banned?

123.123.123.123 style is "IPv4" (32 bits)
The new version is "IPv6" (128 bits), but not all equipment/software can handle it yet.

Yes, if you are on the internet I would guess you have an IP address.
