Science
Really? I thought Math is a part of it 'And fun? If maths is fun, then getting a tooth extraction is fun. A viral infection is fun. Rabies shots are fun.' 'God exists because Mathematics is consistent, and the devil exists because we cannot prove it' 'Who are you to judge everything?' Alokananda #2 20130613 22:37:04
Re: ScienceHi; In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof. #3 20130613 22:51:48
Re: ScienceDo we have a definition? 'And fun? If maths is fun, then getting a tooth extraction is fun. A viral infection is fun. Rabies shots are fun.' 'God exists because Mathematics is consistent, and the devil exists because we cannot prove it' 'Who are you to judge everything?' Alokananda #4 20130613 22:54:42
Re: ScienceWe have a problem with that.
In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof. #5 20130614 07:13:54
Re: ScienceSome people like to classify Mathematics as a Science. I proposed in the title that Science actually is a part of Mathematics. Makes sense ... right? "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." Leon M. Lederman #6 20130614 07:17:16
Re: Science
I tend to agree with this. The limit operator is just an excuse for doing something you know you can't. “It's the subject that nobody knows anything about that we can all talk about!” ― Richard Feynman “Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear most.” ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment #7 20130614 11:26:43
Re: ScienceI think science and mathematics are different studies. But science needs maths, though maths doesn't need science. In that sense science is part of mathematics. There are 10 kinds of people in the world, people who understand binary and people who don't. #8 20130614 11:50:30
Re: Science
That they do, I tend to think of it as an art. Something requiring talent. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof.
