1 paradox rebornHello there, I just made this thread because I am too bored that we do not have anymore people who tell us that 0.999... ≠ 1. Since, I really want those days back, 'And fun? If maths is fun, then getting a tooth extraction is fun. A viral infection is fun. Rabies shots are fun.' 'God exists because Mathematics is consistent, and the devil exists because we cannot prove it' 'Who are you to judge everything?' Alokananda #2 20140209 21:49:10
Re: 1 paradox rebornDo you want to give up the summation of a geometric series? In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof. #3 20140210 04:02:35
Re: 1 paradox rebornI do not know. I just made this up because no one else was doing it 'And fun? If maths is fun, then getting a tooth extraction is fun. A viral infection is fun. Rabies shots are fun.' 'God exists because Mathematics is consistent, and the devil exists because we cannot prove it' 'Who are you to judge everything?' Alokananda #4 20140210 04:03:32
Re: 1 paradox rebornI would say the fact that there are no more posts like that is progress! In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof. #5 20140210 04:06:25
Re: 1 paradox rebornprogress for whom? 'And fun? If maths is fun, then getting a tooth extraction is fun. A viral infection is fun. Rabies shots are fun.' 'God exists because Mathematics is consistent, and the devil exists because we cannot prove it' 'Who are you to judge everything?' Alokananda #6 20140210 04:07:28
Re: 1 paradox rebornThe world and the forum. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof. #7 20140210 04:13:05
Re: 1 paradox rebornWhy aren't there more closed threads and banned users? 'And fun? If maths is fun, then getting a tooth extraction is fun. A viral infection is fun. Rabies shots are fun.' 'God exists because Mathematics is consistent, and the devil exists because we cannot prove it' 'Who are you to judge everything?' Alokananda #8 20140210 04:14:30
Re: 1 paradox rebornBecause there are not that many jerks on math forums. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof. #9 20140210 04:17:05
Re: 1 paradox rebornbut they are basically good and fun to be around 'And fun? If maths is fun, then getting a tooth extraction is fun. A viral infection is fun. Rabies shots are fun.' 'God exists because Mathematics is consistent, and the devil exists because we cannot prove it' 'Who are you to judge everything?' Alokananda #10 20140210 04:18:26
Re: 1 paradox rebornNot really. They are abusive. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof. #11 20140210 17:13:14
Re: 1 paradox rebornThe thing is that, fortunately, we do not get to see the ad hominem attacks, since most are moderated. What's left of their posts seems really funny, because they give themselves huge accomplishments. The limit operator is just an excuse for doing something you know you can't. “It's the subject that nobody knows anything about that we can all talk about!” ― Richard Feynman “Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear most.” ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment #12 20140210 19:18:40
Re: 1 paradox rebornYes, to the people responsible for the forum quality these guys are hardly funny or entertaining. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof. #13 20140211 01:21:15
Re: 1 paradox rebornI cannot begin to imagine it! Thanks for keeping the forum clean! Re: 1 paradox reborn
This is actually a proof by contradiction that r ≥ 1. In other words the assumption that r < 1 leads to the absurdity that r does not exist. Last edited by Nehushtan (20140213 00:22:06) 134 books currently added on Goodreads #17 20140313 14:29:32
Re: 1 paradox rebornWhat is .99999 recurring + .33333 recurring if .99999 recurring does not equal 1? Last edited by TheTick (20140313 14:38:38) Spooooon!!!
