Hi;

So 0 = 1? Gave me an idea!

Here is what I did. I had a 1 dollar bill in my pocket so I took it out and placed it in the drawer. But since I now had 0 dollars in my pocket immediately a dollar appeared in there. After all 0 dollars = 1 dollar. So I thought why not try this again. I took the dollar out and immediately it reappeared in my pocket! This worked again and again... Now the question is when should I stop?

You cannot get the gif working because he has not uploaded a woking gif.

Re: Funny posts

You have been able to put an animated gif as your avatar. I would like to see that. I did use a working gif.

Changed the link. I like proxies for which all you have to do to the link is take their name out.

I had to trim the .gif because it was too large and it became still.

Re: Funny posts

That is what did it. A gif is a bunch of images, when you trimmed it you lose some.

I had thought of that when I trimmed it, but I really liked the image even when still so I decided to use it.

Re: Funny posts

Hi,

The problem with reproducing this as an avatar animation is the small file size:

MIF - "It must not be any bigger than 80 x 80 pixels and 10240 bytes (10 KB)".

The size of the animated gif on the site from which I downloaded it is 22.9KB, which is more than twice the max allowed. It comprises 17 frames, and so I went to http://gifmaker.me/ and started deleting some of them, but I couldn't get down to 10KB until there were only 5 frames left...which spoils the show.

Maybe using an image editor to reduce the quality and/or size of each frame could help to keep more frames...but I tried that a bit in IrfanView and got nowhere with it.

The first image (below) is the original (17 frames), and the second is the doctored one (5 frames). Just click on the pics to play the animations.

Re: Funny posts

There are editors to remove frames, I have had animated gifs for avatars.

Re: Funny posts

I tried several different editors and techniques (eg, cropping, frame deletion, colour reduction...), but none worked satisfactorily on this gif because there are so many frames and each frame has so many colours.

The integrity of the original is lost in trying to get down to the 10KB max file size.

Someone who was discussing image compression on StackExchange said, "You simply can't squeeze a blue whale into a tuna can"...and it looks like that's true in this case.

Re: Funny posts

Hi;

I am not too concerned with what those whale hunters at the SE have to say. I have done it with several spaceship avatars and kept the animation. But you may be correct.

Re: Funny posts

Yes, I did that too with the avatar I made some time ago that you used for a while, so I know it can be done. But it all depends, depends, depends...

Maybe that SE whale hunter just threw that comment out there hoping that someone might read into it that he'd once actually caught a whale. A true fisherman's whale of a tale. smile

Re: Funny posts

Hi;

As you probably know I am the chairman of the ASPTC ( American Society for the Preservation of Tuna Cans ), sounds like someone over there has been needlessly experimenting with tuna cans and thus wasting one of our most precious resources. Thank you for bringing that to my attention, I can assure you he will be dealt with.

I think his name's Jonah, and he swallowed his own whale story. I'd start looking for him in Nineveh.

No...it was razed to the ground during a civil war in 612BC and lay in ruins for centuries, vanishing over time. Archaeologists discovered it in the 1840s.

Sorry to have tried to send you on a wild goose chase!

Re: Funny posts

Hi Bobby,

Here's that gif I made that you used way back for your avatar for a while...unless it was the dual version and not this quad, because this one's much larger than MIF's max avatar sizes and would need shrinking.
