So you see those geese too! I thought I was imagining them.

In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.

I agree with you regarding the satisfaction and importance of actually computing some numbers. I can't tell you how often I see time and money wasted because someone didn't bother to run the numbers.

It all depends on which way you look at it.

Hi Bobby,

Here's that gif I made that you used way back for your avatar for a while...unless it was the dual version and not this quad, because this one's much larger than MIF's max avatar sizes and would need shrinking.

How do you make these animations?

How about teaching me how to do those cool animations?

Re: Funny posts

You find them on the internet and then you use an editor to fix them the way you like.

No I can not. He is better at creating animations than I am. I use gebra in a different way.

Hi,

Agnishom wrote:

I don't recall exactly how I created the animated gif in post #23 as it's the only one I've ever done and that was over 4 years ago. It was something special I made for bobbym, who showed his appreciation like this:

bobbym wrote:

Hi phrontister;
I know it would devastate you if I didn't accept your avatar and show it proudly. My friend it will remain as my avatar long after we are both gone.

Well, neither of us have gone, but bobbym's continued use of my avatar has! sad And I am devastated, as he knew I would be! faint But I'll get over it...eventually!

Anyway, here's how I think I would have gone about creating the animated gif:

I reckon I would have copied a rainbow image from some internet page and pasted it into SnagIt (I have the paid-for version), which I use a lot as it has many cool features.

The gif images are obviously tilted, which may have been the way the original image was or I may have used SnagIt's Perspective tool. I don't recall.

I then would have created 8 gif images, each one rotated clockwise 45° from the previous image. The overlapping gives a full 360° of images for smooth rotation when animated, without obvious joins or breaks. I also would have greatly reduced the number of colours - to around 32, I'd say - to keep the file size down.

So there we have Set 1, the one for the animation in the top left-hand corner.

Set 2 (top right-hand corner) is Set 1 flipped horizontally, with anticlockwise rotations this time and also with a different starting point on the compass (to achieve a staggered/random look).
Sets 3 & 4 are the same as Set 2, and with different compass starting points from the other sets.

Then I would have created 8 gifs (ie, 8 'slides' of 4), each comprising a different gif from each of the sets, in order. I probably used SnagIt for that.

To create the animated gif I would have used either the freeware program UnFREEz or an online gif maker. Just load the 8 gif 'slides'-of-4 into the program and select the speed.

I've probably left something vital out; but you never know...I might have fluked it!

Re: Funny posts

What was the vital thing you left out?

Thanks, by the way for telling me.

'was' refers to an actual occurrence: ie, something that happened, took place.

phrontister wrote:

'probably' means with considerable certainty; without much doubt; "He is probably out of the country"; "in all likelihood it will rain tomorrow": ie, the event may never occur, or even have occurred.

As almost invariably happens when giving someone directions or instructions, some vitally important information will either be omitted, or wrong:

Finagle's Third Law:
In any collection of data, the figure most obviously correct,
beyond all need of checking, is the error

Corollaries:
        1.  Nobody whom you ask for help will see it.
        2.  The first person who stops by, whose advice you really
don't want to hear, will see it immediately.

I probably made such an error or omission...but no one will identify it
(a) until an inordinate amount of time and effort in sorting out the resultant problem has first been expended; or
(b) ever.
