Re: replace the question mark

That is a good question.

In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.

I think it might be 42.

Why do you say that?

You should know why.

Re: replace the question mark

No, because 4 and 2 are the only two even digits that appear exactly 2 times, of course.

Though, what you said might be another reason for it.

Re: replace the question mark

Because I think that is what the creator of the puzzle was going for.

Might be. smile

Do you have any guess what the answer might be?

None, so yours might be correct.

Re: replace the question mark

I just do not see what is so logical about one particular answer.

Re: replace the question mark

I'm going to make a hypothesis that the answer is a single digit positive integer.

I agree and by Bensfords rule it is most likely to be a 1.

Re: replace the question mark

Hi;

Before I forget my method for arriving at that negative answer, I'd better post it (not that I think it's the answer and logic that the author is looking for):

Re: replace the question mark

These hexagon number puzzles are common in so called IQ tests and in puzzle books.  I don't think there is enough information in two diagrams to be certain about the third.  And 6 very able members of the forum have come up with 6 alternative answers already, which is surely evidence that the puzzle is poorly formed.  (Sorry Niharika if you made it up.  sad )

If you did, please put us out of our misery and tell us.  smile

But it had better be a good explanation.
